alan 阿蘭, 阿兰 or アラン
Song Title: ひとつ Hitotsu
Singles: ひとつ Hitotsu
Year / Track: 2008, Track #1
Genre: Japanese, Ballad
My Rating: 10 / 10
Comments/Info: WOW. That's all I can say. This is a perfect
must-download pop-ballad song to start the rotation!
alan is an ethnically Tibetan singer from the Sichuan area of China. She
debuted in 2007 and she remains an under-rated artist and I feel an urge
to rock her to the surface! I felt privileged to hear such MAGNIFICENT
AND COMMENDABLE vocal. One of the most amazing thing is that she improved
A LOT since her last single back in 2007. No nasal voice and as the song
buills up through the chorus, she hits the highest octave withough falling
into a falsetto! KUDOS to her!! The way her vocal flows ups and downs
with different range makes up for the ordinary piano arrangement. As you
would have expect, some light Tibetan instruments are being incorporated
and because of that I love her even MORE! She is currently still studying
Japanese, and only has a basic grasp of the language. So, you can expect
simple and blotchy Japanese, but it's moderately impressive. Lovely, ethereal,
soothing ballad.

Yorico より子
Song Title: 臆病なライオン Okubyou na Lion
Album: 願う Negau
Year / Track: 2008, Track #10
Genre: Japanese, Pop
My Rating: 9.5 / 10
Comments/Info: Yorico originally debuted as an indies
artist under Harmony Records in 2002. Her music is piano / orchestra-based,
similar to Angela Aki. "Okubyou na Lion" is such a
playful rhythmic song, with great tapping piano technique, tambourine
pieces, and layered vocals. Her vocal reminds me of Younha, clear rough
and moderately strong. Great effort by Yorico using nasal vocal to sing
the higher end of the octaves. She was diagnosed having a throat cancer
as a child and through her life has struggled to fight the disease. I
think it's extremely inspirational for her to have to go through that
and I applaud her for surviving in Japan's competitive music industry.

S.E.N.S
Song Title: Forbidden Love
Album: Natural - The Very Best Of S.E.N.S.
Year / Track: 2004, Track #1
Genre: Instrumentals, Orchestra, Piano, New Age
My Rating: 10 / 10
Comments/Info: S.E.N.S, made up of duo Akihiko Fukaura
and Yukari Katsuki, two talented musicians who composed and play electronic
keyboard-Orchestra songs. S.E.N.S is well known for composing songs for
Japanese TV Dorama series, such as "Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake",
"Asunaro Hakusho", "A City of Sadness",
"Love 2000". and many others. Forbidden Love
is one of most notable track of the popular dorama 'Love 2000' (Nisennen
no Koi), starring Takeshi Kaneshiro and Nakayama Miho. The story revollves
arounf the forbidden love between a secret agent & assassin Nogami
(Kaneshiro) sent on a mission to Japan, who fell in love with a systems
analyst Rieru (Nakayama). The simple orchestrated instrumentals depict
what the characters are feeling perfectly and heigthen the listeners'
inner emotional control capability. The delicate melodies, rhythms and
musical instruments are infectiously sorrowful and forlorn. The use of
cello further deepen the sorrow and the dilemma in the forbidden romance,
creating such a quiet and depressing mood.

Artist:
Kana Nishino 西野カナ
Song Title: I
Singles: I
Year / Track: 2008, Track #1
Genre: Japanese, Alternative Rock
My Rating: 10 / 10
Comments/Info: Spotlight for Japan's newcomer alt rock
singer, Nishino Kana (age 19), who debuted on February 20, 2008 with her
single "I". I immediately fall in love with this song the first
time I listened to this song. Okay, she might not have the strongest vocal
out there, but I reckon it's pretty decent try for a new artist. The debut
track has quite messy music arrangement, with typical drum beats and rifting
smooth gitar here and there PLUS some synthetic electro instrumentation.
I really love the catchy chorus and the way she yells, "SOS,
I don't wanna know...~ leading up to the chorus. I was incredibly
hypnotised with the beautiful layered vocals of hers, which somehow reminds
me of typical goth Anna Tsuchiya's vocal. From when she was little, Nishino
learnt English from eikaiwa schools, and went to America twice. In 2007
while preparing to be a singer, she was also studying English literature
at university; so you can expect some good English from her. One of promising
new JPop artists to come!

Song Title: 転がる岩、君に朝が降る Korogaru Iwa, Kimi ni Asa ga Furu
Singles: 転がる岩、君に朝が降る Korogaru Iwa, Kimi ni Asa ga Furu
Year / Track: 2008, Track #1
Genre: Japanese, Rock
My Rating: 9.5 / 10
Comments/Info: W00t~ New singles from AKFG!! I'm super
bias with this band because I just LOVE *hearts* them so much! This is
another melodic rock arrangement done by AKFG. It was'nt as hardcore and
disorientated rock like Haruka Kanata, but the signature rock
elements are still there. The complexity of the bass, drum, electric guitar,
and other rock instruments patterns are always notable and consistent.
Goto's falsetto is always a plus to the song, I'm glad that this band
consistently deliver great awesome rock to us, music lovers :)

Ikimono Gakari いきものがかり
Song Title: 花は桜 君は美し Hana wa Sakura Kimi wa Utsukushi
Singles: ライフアルバム life album
Year / Track: 2008, Track #7
Genre: Japanese, Alt-Rock
My Rating: 9.5 / 10
Comments/Info: Ikimono Gakari is a rather underrated
3-piece band which made their main-stream debut in 2006 with "SAKURA".
The band was first formed in 1999 as an indies band, but never saw the
big lights until 2006, and now they come up with their sophomore mainstream
album called Life Album. The album reached #1 on Oricon Weekly
Charts in its first week, which is extremely impressive for an under-rated
indie band. AND Yes, shame on me for not discovering this Jpop-rock band!
This album was my starting point for me to discover the goodness of their
music. For me, this title track remains one of the standout track within
the album. The beginning replicates ballad kinda music, but don't let
it fool ya'~ Cos the drum beats begins to pop put and light bass starts
to kick in. I really love that pace of beat change and Kiyoe's clear crystal
vocal is absolutely likeable. The way she attempts to use non-nasal voice
when she reach high notes is pretty cute. This song is fast-paced in the
middle, youthful and has great lyrics as foundation. The way the song
begins and ends is great, a contradicting change from the fast-pace of
the chorus. Brilliant and cunning music!

Kita Shuuhei 喜多修平
Song Title: キミの記憶 Kimi no Kioku
Singles: Breakin' Through
Year / Track: 2008, Track #2
Genre: Japanese, Rock
My Rating: 10 / 10
Comments/Info: I thought this guy deserves some exposure
for releasing a solid debut single 'Breakin Through', which is used as
an OST for action anime "Persona ~Trinity Soul~". I
really like the mixed instrumentals within the song, a nice trick combo
between electronised/modified piano beat and clinking bamboo beat, which
crate a surreal mood somehow. Okay, it can be repeitive, but it's addicting!!!
I like the way he sings like he's reading, half reading half singing in
a fast-paced mode. His voice is unique, not manly but so smooth and seductive.
He uses a nice stomach voice when he hits the high notes (climax) bits
and it's done pretty neatly.

Song Title: Get a Life
Singles: Life
Year / Track: 2008, Track #3
Genre: Japanese, Pop-RnB, Classical
My Rating: 10 / 10
Comments/Info: Ahhh, how could you not LOVE this song!
It has RnB element (rap), classicals, and pop! I've introduced you guys
to twenty4-7 ages ago ( I think it was my rotation in December 2007) and
since then they gained quite popularity, ne? This is their 2nd album,
which was a better attempt than their first ones FOR SURE!! "Get
a Life" is one of my favourite track with playful classical piano
piece combine with electro RnB beats. Vocals are soooo richly blended
here, with few amazing high-octaved range here and there. It's beautiful
and fun song that can cheer you up and basically.....GET A LIFE!! ^v^

KOTOKO
Song Title: Sociometry
Singles: BLAZE
Year / Track: 2008, Track #2
Genre: Japanese, Trance, Pop
My Rating: 9 / 10
Comments/Info: I haven't heard from Kotoko for ageeeeees!
Yes, she is well known for inserting her songs into anime-related soundtrack,
but she rarely release something non-anime related stuffs. I'm satisfied
with her latest single, though the music type and trance bits starts to
irritatingly sounds the same as her other trance tracks. It'sa likeable
non-hardcore trancey title track, but it's nothing as extraordinary as
Re-sublimity or Uzu-maki. There is a subdued lyrics
throughout the song, I found that a great change since she always rushes
and tries to fit gazzilionth sentences in one line. Great effort!

YUI
Song Title: I wanna be...
Singles: Namidairo
Year / Track: 2008, Track #2
Genre: Japanese, Pop-Rock, Alternative
My Rating: 9.5 / 10
Comments/Info: Yui has done it again! It has been over
1 year since I grew fond of her stuffs and the newest singles just light
up my love again towards her music. Her voice is really sweet and clear,
and fits her image and her acoustic innocent music style. "I
wanna be..." kicks off with great rifting acoustic guitar and
neat percussion, it is upbeat and slightly more colourful than her side-A
ballad. As usual, the lyric is simplistic, inspirational, and speaks about
life in general. Okay, she can be a pbit pitchy at times and the song
is a bit monotonous, but it's a great progressively upbeat poppish song
that you can't help to sing!

KOKIA
Song Title: 穏やかな静けさ Odoyaka na Shizukesa
Album: The Voice
Year / Track: 2008, Track #1
Genre: Japanese, New Age
My Rating: 10 / 10
Comments/Info: I just had to post this!!! Her latest
album is SUPER MAGNIFICENT REMARKABLE OUTSTANDING GORGEOUS BEAUTIFUL that
I'm having a DIFFICULT time to pick which one to sample for you guys here!
I uploaded Kokia's last single and most of you commented thatyou love
it, so here I am uploading a few more of her!! Anyway, 'The Voice' showcase
different genres, variety, and her breath-taking vocal ranges. "Odoyaka
na Shizukesa" is a perfect song to kick off the album, it starts
with gorgeous wavy complex vocals by Kokia. The ambience is calming, yet
the musical arrangement is so complex it combines piano, cello, bass,
and snythetic instrumentals. It's a bit abstract in a way but it's so
ethereal. It's a smart musical composition, with of course layered spell-binding
vocals The song is a bit longer than usual, but you'll find beauty and
serenity within the song..

Utada Hikaru 宇多田ヒカル
Song Title: Prisoner of Love
Album: HEART STATION
Year / Track: 2008, Track #1
Genre: Japanese, New Age
My Rating: 10 / 10
Comments/Info: I'm rejoicing over Hikki's latest album!
Although I'm a bit dissapointed due to the lack of new songs within the
album, but it's amazing how I love every track of the album!!! The sounds
are much more electronised and studio-modified rather than orchestratic
/ accoustic-driven arrangement. "Prisoner of Love" is a great
upbeat pop music with some typical hip-hop beat on it. This isone of many
standout tracks the first time I listened to the whole album. It can be
repetitive overtime, but I need to commend Hikki on her vocal, it's just
absolutely amazing. She's more focus on filling teh gaps between the break
of the song by singing in a different range, which I found very wise because
it brings a nice flow overall to the song.

Sun Ha 선하
Song Title: Take It
Album: Fahrenheit
Year / Track: 2008, Track #3
Genre: Korean, RnB
My Rating: 9 / 10
Comments/Info: This is one of the title track from Sunha's
debut album 'Fahrenheit' in January 2008. Sun Ha is a new artist under
DSP, a popular idol factory that have produced artist like Lee Hyori,
etc. She's 23 years old and she was the second runner up for Miss Seoul
in 2006. Sun Ha is nicknamed as the "next Lee Hyo Lee" based
not only on the two stars' physical resemblance but also Sun Ha's huge
potential to reach the same dizzying heights of stardom as Lee Hyo Lee.
Vocal wise she's not as strong as other female Korean RnB artists, but
I think she's done quite well in this mini album. The beat and the flow
of the song is simple and suit her vocal range. Likeable and catchy chorus,
you will find common RnB melody that you will like. She's not bad for
a pretty beauty queen.

Da Vinci 다비치
Song Title: 슬픈 사랑의 노래 Seulpeun Sarange Norae
Album: AMARANTH
Year / Track: 2008, Track #6
Genre: Korean, Ballad, RnB
My Rating: 10 / 10
Comments/Info: You SERIOUSLY gotta download this
and BUY THE ALBUM!! It's amazing!!! Da Vici, is the new mysertious
RnB duo made up of members Kang Min Kyung and Lee Hae Ri. To ensure the
media’s interest, Da Vici’s debut music video features sexy
Lee Hyori and actress Lee Miyeon as the female duo from the classic girls
movie, Thelma and Louise. This is why a lot of people get mistaken
that both Hyori and Miyeon sang this, but the truth is it was Min Kyung
and Hae Ri who are the members of Da Vici. Anyway, I'm completely in love
with this track. You gotta turn up the music volume to further deepen
your understanding of the music. It's a somber bitter melachonly song.
The song kicks off with beautiful and quite uplifting piano, before the
vocalist's forlorn vocals establish the depressing atmosphere. I completely
adore + LOVE their smoky voice, it gives a total of desperation especially
when she sings, "Kah-jima, Kah-jima (Don't go, don't go)".
You don't have to understand the lyrics, but it takes you to this sea
of sadness. Powerful vocals with beautiful orchestra. I've told you before,
Koreans do a more powerful ballad than the other Asians and this title
proves it hard.

My Rating: 10 / 10
Comments/Info: This is another popular song for super
popular Korean series, GOONG, starring Eun Hye and Joo Ji Hoon . This
is another beautiful ballad piece that can sway you and makes you teary.
I like how the vocalist insert high ocatve notes in the last bits of the
chorus. The flow of the music is fabulous, with the song builds up from
a normal stanza with siple piano with a more dense musical arrangements
as it reaches the climax near the end of the song. A gorgeous yet heart-breaking
ballad.

Song Title: One Love

Year / Track: 2008, Track #5
Genre: Korean, RnB, Hip Hop
My Rating: 10 / 10
Comments/Info: Remember this band? I introduced you guys
to their style of music (sampled about 3 songs from their 1st album) back
in last rotation. Well, they are back with their new album! Which is quite
unexpected, since they just released their 1st debut album not so long
ago! But hey, I'm not complaining~! Again, their style f music kinda improved
a bit, with few exprimentation of different genres and collboration with
other artists. Anyway, Me Joohee is such an addicting Hip-Hop/RnB track
that can get your booty shakin~! ^v^ It's a sexy song with great quality
vocal, especially by the only lead female vocalist. The jazzy trumpet
is fun and incorporated perfectly with the hip hop beat and shouting and
rap.

Loveholic
Song Title: Want You Hear [Hannah and Alice OST] / 하나와 앨리스 OST
Album: Dramatic & Cinematic
Year / Track: 2008, Track #5
Genre: Korean, Alternative, Pop-Rock
My Rating: 10 / 10
Comments/Info: I'm jumping in joy and excitement that
Loveholic finally released their 5th album after nearly 1.5 year hiatus
since November 2006. Dramatic & Cinematic is filled with
unforgettable melodies and infectious sounds from popular dramas and movies
like Singles, One Fine Day, My Lovely Kim Sam Soon, The Snow Queen, 200
Pound Beauty, and Christmas In August. Unfortunately, Dramatic &
Cinematic marks Ji Seon's last act with Loveholic before venturing
out on her solo, but Loveholic promises to march on. "Want You Hear"
is one of my favourite KDrama series, it's a nice pop-rock song with ballad
element incorporated to it. HOW COULD YOU NOT SERIOUSLY FALL in love with
Ji Sun's vocal.... it's soothing, lovely, and angelic! I really adore
how here is overlapping male background voice in the background. The melody
is so likeable with the rifting guitar and musical beats.

Huang YiDA
Song Title: 文成公主 Wen Cheng Gong Zhu
Album: 完整演出 Wan Zheng Yan Chu
Year / Track: 2008, Track #8
Genre: Mandarin, Pop
My Rating: 9.5 / 10
Comments/Info: This album hit Huang YiDa hard and a few
people have been really dissapointed, especially after the hype from his
GORGEOUS previous releases "Chou Nan Ren" (for Devil Beside
You OST) and "Set Me Free". Allegedly, this album is written
when he attempted to commit suicide, therefore there are some depressing,
dark, and twisted music arrangements within the album. Wen Xheng Gong
Zhu may be perceived as rather unusal and weird for some listeners, but
I love the awesome combination of Chinese traditional chants and new western
new age elements. It's a pity that it goes all monotonous towards the
end, and I was sitting there expecting more and more: I was hoping the
music to build up into a this modern heavy rock like "Set Me
Free" and just explode your heart out. But, sadly it didnt happen.
It was a decent attempt, positively admirable because of the musical arrangements.

Mayday 五月天
Song Title: 香水 Xiang Shui
Album: 為愛而生 Born To Love
Year / Track: 2008, Track #5
Genre: Mandarin, Alt-Rock
My Rating: 10 / 10
Comments/Info: Translated as "Perfume",
this title track from Mayday's latest album rocks up my playlist real
hard coupla times! Mayday is a Taiwanese band that originated in the late
1990s but has since become one of the biggest alternative rock bands in
the Taiwanese pop culture, thus receiving a range of accolades as well
as moving records all over the world. Mayday sing songs mostly in Taiwanese
and Mandarin. They project a clean and healthy image, representing the
zeitgeist of the Taiwanese youth who identify with the band's themes of
innocence, dreams, loneliness and determination (Wikipedia). At the same
time, the band's unique outlook on life has attracted many fans who find
their views refreshing. 'Xiang Shui' a moderately heavy aternative
rock song with quite loud and disorientated music instruments. Strangely,
the first beginning part reminds me of Maroon 5 with funky kinky elements
to it. This song is just liekable in every aspect, the stanzas and even
the chorus are addicting. Vocalwise, Ashin is quite impressive, especially
when he experiment with rap and shouting and low-nd and high-end register.
Somethign different from Korean and Japanese alt-rock!

Album: 鬥牛。要不要 Bull FIghting OST
Year / Track: 2008, Track #2
Genre: Mandarin, Ballad
My Rating: 9.5 / 10
Comments/Info: This is another typical ballad covered
by S.H.E. Honestly, I'm a big fan of S.H.E. Their music is so likeable,
the personaliities of the band's members are FABULOUS and they produce
decent music. Yes, their music can be a bit ordinary, but they are honest
about their lyrics interpretation. Again, I love the layered vocals in
this song and the simple romantic lyrics. The piano is faded in the background
and constant heavy percussion beats remain focal in the song. Soothingballad
song that makes you fall in love all over again.

Song Title: 灵灵 Ling Ling
Album: 灵灵 Ling Ling
Year / Track: 2007, Track #2
Genre: Mandarin, Pop, RnB
My Rating: 8.5 / 10
Comments/Info: OMGSH, this song is sooooo addicting!!!
This is an unusual collaboration between Lin Jun Jie and Kiki Hu. Kiki
Hu, which most of you will not know about, is the winner of Singaporean
Idol, so you can expect some great quality in her vocal. It is strong,
though not as powerful as she should be (but fair enough, she didnt have
much chance to hit high octaves in RnB type of song). Jun Jie is always
adorable undoubtedly, it is a pity he only sings rap part of the song.
It's a funky catchy poppish song, but I get bored of it real quickly.
If they do ballad collaboration, it would be awesome, I reckon! Both powerful
vocals join together... whoaw!

Comments/Info: AHHHHHH TANK <3 !!!! *squeals* SEXY!
Yes *nods nods* , he has one of the sexiest coquetteish vocal that a male
singer ever had! This song is just so cool and suit TANK perfectly; it
kicks off with ordinary rap and heavy bass work. Then the chorus came
with built up beats and that's where I scream "OHH YEAAA!" that's
what I call a rock song! It's an angry wiith some angst and desperation-flavoured
song; PLUS some sexy element! I couldnt ask for more. The song finish

messy rock arrangement, it's powerful and AWESOME!

Song Title: Wish
Album: Thermo Plastic
Year / Track: 2006, Track #8
Genre: Japanese, Pop-Rock
Comments/Info: I'm totally 100000% obsessed with this song.
I can listen to it for gazzilion times and still love it to death. I particularly
like the way the chorus flows in this song. The instrumental accompaniment
is interesting, with guitars appearing here and there, harmonicas, and
of course strong percussion. As always, the interpretation of her lyrics
is not direct, which makes her music distinct from others and makes her
a credible full-fledged artist and performer. The music video, despite
her daggy look back in 1999, is deeply mysterious, spooky, fascinating
and a bit gross in a way. But wot the heck! I'm lovin hitomi anyways *hehe

Song Title: Wish
Singles: Wish / Starless Night
Year / Track: 2006, Track #1
Genre: Japanese, Soft-Rock
Comments/Info: Perfect music composition, perfect vocal, perfect
everything! This song starts with a hardcore electric guitar, banginga
and pumping explosive rock beats. The music is heavily layered with noisy
background rockish feeling, it suits OLIVIA's high octavesvocal nicely.
The PV uses a random scene, using a distinct contrast looks of OLIVIA,
specifically from her cute babydoll innocent face at the beginning to
her rock funky looks as a rock singer in the chorus part. She is photogenic,
thanks to her mixed heritage which makes her looks good on screen and
off-screen.
